How to turn data roaming off on the iPhone
Why you should turn off data roaming on your iPhone? iPhone come with an unlimited data plan for users in the USA. They pay a 20$ a month flat fee for unlimited data usage.
When you take your iPhone overseas this is not the case. You will be in “Roaming” this status costs a lot more per to make calls or download data. Your email program will automatically be downloading new emails and that can get expensive quickly! We are talking hundreds if not thousands of dollars!

To turn off your iPhone’s data connection when the phone is roaming to save yourself those big bills, do the following:
- Be sure you’ve updated to iPhone Firmware Update 1.1.1 or later
- Tap the Settings button
- Tap the General option
- Tap the Network option
- Slide the Data Roaming slider to Off
If you really need to check your email or get online then turn the option on, just don’t forget to turn it back OFF when you are done! iOS 4: Turn Off All Cellular Data
In iOS 4 there is even a more surefire way to turn data roaming off. By turning off all cellular data the only way to connect to the internet is WiFi.
How to do it:
- Tap the Settings icon
- Tap General
- Tap Network
- Slide Cellular Data to “off”.
You can do this together with or separately from turning data roaming off. Depending on your situation and what you need you will want to turn one or both off.
